Pointillism works 8th grade'12

My 8th graders recently got done doing a Pointillism project. I at first introduced them to this concept of art and science through Georges Seurat paintings and this awesome Khan Academy video

Post-Impressionism Seurat's A Sunday on La Grande Jatte - 1884: Georges Seurat, A Sunday on La Grande Jatte - 1884, 1884-86, oil on canvas, 81-3/4 x 121-1/4 inches / 207.5 x 308.1 cm (The Art Institute of Chicago). In the Google Art project: http://www.googleartproject.com/collection/the-art-institute-of-chicago/artwo...

After the students got to know a little something about the art style and Impressionism, I had them research a piece of art from that time period and re-create it in a Contour Drawing style

After they developed a good outline, they started to fill in those shapes in a Pointillism style. By repeatedly tapping with the tip of their marker and/or crayon, they could blend colors together. What I also enjoyed with this was the fact that they had to frequently step away from their work to see how it would look like 10-15 feet away
